Work with Wild To Sea
Four ways in. All are free, and none involves buying or swapping a link.
WildToSea is edited by Tim Hennig, who also manages Boutique Hotel Matlai on Zanzibar. I say that first so you know who is reading your message. Wherever the hotel is mentioned on this site, it is stated plainly; more in how the site makes money. I read every message myself.
Get listed
Being listed here is free. I list companies I have dealt with through the hotel or have looked at myself, and I check anyone who writes to me in the same way. No listing depends on a link.
This is how I choose:
- I read the company's public pages on a date I record: its own website, the Tanzania Association of Tour Operators (TATO) member directory and, where it has one, its SafariBookings profile.
- Every line I write about it can be checked in public places. I record only what I can see, with the date I looked.
- A missing licence number on a website is recorded as "not shown", never as "unlicensed".
- Nobody pays, and nobody has to link back. I may say no, and I may remove a row when I can no longer check it.
The list and its method are on the page how to choose a safari operator.
Write for us
I publish first-hand trip reports, written by the person who made the trip. The rules are short:
- Up to 1,500 words, about a trip you actually took, with the month and year.
- Your own photos, original files. No stock images.
- One link in your author bio, to your own site. The link text is your brand or your name, never a search phrase. Bio links are marked nofollow.
- I fact-check every figure and may edit lightly. You approve the final text before anything goes live.
- No payment either way. I do not pay for articles and I do not take money for them.
Generic round-ups and articles written around a search phrase are not what I am looking for. A wrong turn, a cold dawn drive and one honest downside are.
Quote Tim
Journalists and bloggers writing about travel to Tanzania or Zanzibar can quote me, by name. I came to Zanzibar in 2009 and have lived on the island since 2011. I am a hotel manager, not a licensed guide, and I will say so when a question is outside what I know first-hand and point you to an official source instead.
For figures, use our data page: park fees, entry costs and tipping, each with its source and the date it was checked, free to reuse with credit under CC BY 4.0. Put your deadline in the first line of your message.
An optional badge
If your company is listed, you may show a small badge on your own site. It is optional. It is never a condition of being listed, and nobody is asked to link back. If you add it, you decide where it goes and how the link is marked, including nofollow.
Copy the badge as an image link:
<a href="https://wildtosea.com/en/plan/how-to-choose-a-safari-operator/"><img src="https://wildtosea.com/badges/listed-on-wild-to-sea-light.svg" width="240" height="64" alt="Listed on Wild To Sea"></a> Or, if you prefer plain text:
<a href="https://wildtosea.com/en/plan/how-to-choose-a-safari-operator/">Wild To Sea</a> Use listed-on-wild-to-sea-dark.svg in the first snippet for a dark background. The badge is a script-free image. It says you are listed. It does not say we endorse you.
What we do not do
- We do not sell links, and we do not buy them.
- We do not swap links. "Link to me and I will link to you" gets a polite no.
- No listing depends on a link, on a badge, or on a payment.
- We do not publish sponsored articles, and we do not accept articles written around a search phrase.
How to reach me
Write to [email protected]. There is no form. Please include five things:
- Who you are, and who you write or work for.
- Your website.
- The trip or the company you are writing about.
- What you propose: a listing, an article or a quote.
- Whether the photos are your own.
A no gets one short reply. For trip planning or a stay at the hotel, use the contact page instead.
